New MG4 EV Launch 530 km Range: There is an electric car in the global market which is popular due to its low price and high range. Yes, MG4 EV is available in many global markets including China, Europe, Australia and many Asian countries. Almost 3 years after the launch of the first generation MG4 EV, the second generation model has been launched in China at the Chengdu Auto Show 2025. You will be able to buy it in a total of 5 trims. The special thing is that there has been no change in its price.

Despite being a new model, the company has kept the price of its new MG4 EV quite aggressive. Its base variant is available for 68,800 yuan (Rs 8.50 lakh). The top variant is the Anxin edition with semi-solid-state battery, which is priced at 102,800 yuan (Rs 12.71 lakh). In European markets, the MG4 EV competes with the Volkswagen ID.3, Cupra Born and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.

Design and dimensions of the new MG4 EV

Talking about its exterior, it features new projector headlamps, a main split honeycomb grille, sporty design for the side air ducts and illuminated MG logo. The side profile features conventional door handles, body-colour ORVMs, sporty machined alloy wheels and a slightly tapered roofline. At the rear, LED taillights with interconnecting LED strips, roof spoiler, heavily sloping windshield and a distinctive bumper design can be seen.

The second generation MG4 EV is based on SAIC’s E3 pure electric architecture. The new version of the C-segment electric hatchback has grown in size, giving it a stronger presence on the road. It is now 4,395 mm long (108 mm longer), 1,842 mm wide (6 mm wider), 1,551 mm tall (35 mm longer). Its wheelbase is 2,750 mm (45 mm longer). Overall, you are getting a bigger car for the same price as before.

Interior and features of the new MG4 EV

Talking about the equipment list of this electric car, it includes a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. The lower variants get a 12.8-inch touchscreen. This technical setup has been developed in partnership with Oppo and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 SoC.

The top trim gets advanced driver assist features, including four 360-degree surround view cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and front and rear cameras. These systems are powered by the Horizon Journey J6e chip. This unlocks the high-speed NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) function, including lane keeping assist, autonomous lane change assist, turn signal-activated lane change and auto parking.

MG4 EV Battery Pack and Range

The second-generation MG4 EV will be the world’s first production EV to use a semi-solid-state battery. It is not available at launch, but will be introduced in September 2025. The semi-solid-state battery will be available with the Anxin edition of the MG4. This battery technology has several benefits, such as improved thermal protection, better cold weather performance, longer lifespan and higher energy density. The semi-solid-state battery will be a 70-kWh unit, providing a CLTC range of 537Km.

The standard variant of the second-generation MG4 EV will use a standard lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Two options will be available, a 42.8 kWh and a 53.9 kWh unit. The variants with these battery packs have a CLTC-rated range of 437Km and 530Km, respectively. Both battery packs can be charged from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes using a fast charger.

The new MG4 has a 6-in-1 integrated electric motor that generates 120 kW or 161 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The hatchback can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Users can expect better performance as the second-generation MG4 is lighter than its predecessor (1,485 kg vs 1,635 kg earlier). The new platform and cell-to-body battery design would have further improved its light weight.
